It’s almost February and tomorrow brings a new moon. As we all prepare for new beginnings it is important to remember that mindfulness doesn’t have to be about finding complete isolation from all the chaos of the modern world... awareness and tranquillity are always waiting there - all you need to do is let them in.
Four quick prompts
Distraction – Often disruption is seen as the archenemy of true mindfulness but if you are blocked a change of focus can be vital. Taking a few minutes to break your cycle of thoughts can be a valuable reset. Step outside, do some star-jumps, read a couple of pages of a book.
Everyday Mindfulness – you can introduce a mindful attitude to even the most mundane tasks. Whether its cleaning a room, cooking a meal, doing the dishes or clearing out a cupboard.
Writing – if you find yourself ruminating on the same thoughts over and over, then writing them down can often break their hold. Journaling can be a powerful step to capture your thoughts and let them simply exist within your awareness.
Get more rest – it’s cold and dark outside nearly all the time at the moment, so you shouldn’t have to make any excuses for snuggling into bed that little bit earlier and catching up on some extra rest.
